KUALA LUMPUR: Heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds in 10 states including all of Perlis besides Rompin in Pahang and Hulu Langat in Selangor are expected until 9pm tonight.
Besides Limbang in Sarawak, inland areas in Sabah namely Sipitang and Beaufort besides the West Coast (Papar and Tuaran) are expected to experience the same, said the Malaysian Meteorological Department (METMalaysia) in a Facebook post.
For the Peninsula, the warning is issued for Langkawi, Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, Pokok Sena, Padang Terap, Kulim, and Bandar Baharu in Kedah while Penang involves North Seberang Perai, Central Seberang Perai, and South Seberang Perai.
"In Perak, among the areas receiving the warning include Kerian, Larut, Matang and Selama, Kuala Kangsar, Manjung, Kinta, Central Perak, Kampar, Bagan Datuk, Hilir Perak, Batang Padang, and Muallim.
"Furthermore, in Negri Sembilan, the weather warning is issued for Jelebu, Seremban, Kuala Pilah, Jempol, and Tampin while Johor involves Tangkak, Segamat, Muar, Batu Pahat, Kluang, and Mersing," the statement said.
The warning is issued when there are signs of thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20 millimeters (mm) per hour that are imminent or expected to occur for more than an hour," it added.
"Thunderstorm warnings are short-term warnings valid for a period not exceeding six hours for each issuance"
