KUALA LUMPUR: Two medical students from the United Kingdom have gone viral on social media after sharing videos of their time here while doing their medical electives at University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC).
The videos were posted on TikTok by @lydieandhazal, an account which belongs to students Lydie and Hazal, where they share their experiences as UK medical students in Malaysia.
After posting one video, the duo then posted another as a reply to a comment from the original posting.
In it, they share some of the reasons why Malaysia is a super popular destination for UK medics.
"You get to experience its rich culture, prestigious institutions such as Universiti Malaya, and affordable living expenses (depending on exchange rates).
"(There are) endless tourist attraction sites, as well as good food.
"I really wanted to be around fellow students too, being the social butterfly that I am. It helps me feel more comfortable and safe, especially in a country I've never visited," wrote Hazal.
She added in the comment section that those who are interested in doing medical electives in Malaysia can also enjoy travelling to nearby countries like Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam, a huge incentive if they are looking to tick off a few items on their bucket lists.
Moreover, Hazal said it was interesting for her to see the differences between UK and Malaysian health systems.
The 79-second video clip has gone viral, with most Malaysians welcoming them in the comments section of the video.

Another user, @beezh93 also welcomed the two women, adding: "I'm not in the medical line, but I am Malaysian & a food lover. Please do enjoy all the food & just ask here on TikTok Malaysia if you need a guide for anything."
On the account, Hazal also shares tips on how she organised her medical electives in Malaysia and actively answers questions from the comment section.
