MB post no guarantee of easy win in Kemaman by-election: Ahmad Samsuri

CHUKAI: Holding the position of Menteri Besar is not a guarantee for Pas candidate Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar for an easy win in the Kemaman parliamentary by-election on Dec 2.

The party's vice president said that the previous huge majority win by former Kemaman member of parliament Che Alias Hamad in the 15th General Election (GE15) should not lead to complacency in the upcoming by-election.

Ahmad Samsuri also said that he does not look down on his opponent despite getting a positive response from the voters, and hard work from all the machinery is necessary to ensure that the victory obtained in the last general election is maintained.

"I always say in any election... it's like playing football, as long as the final whistle is not blown, as long as we have not crossed the finish line, we should feel comfortable (and) have to keep working," he said after Ziarah Markas Unit Daerah Mengundi (UDM) for Chukai state constituency today.

The by-election will see a straight fight between Ahmad Samsuri and Barisan Nasional's (BN) candidate general (R) Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor.

The parliamentary seat became vacant following the decision of the Terengganu Election Court to annul the victory of Che Alias during the GE15 after petitioner succeeded in proving that corruption aimed at influencing voters took place during the general election.
