KKB by-election: PN unfazed by new Malay DAP branch in Hulu Selangor

KUALA KUBU BARU: Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate for the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election Khairul Azhari Saut said he is unperturbed by the newly-established Malay DAP branch in Hulu Selangor.

The Hulu Selangor Bersatu division acting chief claimed members of the new Malay DAP branch were mostly voters in the Batang Kali state constituency and not in Kuala Kubu Baharu.

Such a situation, Khairul Azhari said, will unlikely have any impact to his chances in the contest for the May 11 by-election.

"Members of the Malay DAP branch do not involve electorates in Kuala Kubu Baharu.

"Therefore, such a situation is unlikely to have any impact on the by-election," he told reporters here today.

Batang Kali and Kuala Kubu Baharu are among the three state seats in the Hulu Selangor parliamentary constituency. The other seat is Hulu Bernam.

It was reported yesterday that DAP received membership forms of 50 people from the Malay community in Kuala Kubu Baharu for its Malay DAP branch located in Jalan Kemboja.

This is the third branch in Hulu Selangor, which is being overseen by the Malay community, in the constituency, with the other two others located in Jalan Ara and Bukit Beruntung with 50 members and 51 members, respectively.

On a related matter, Khairul Azhari said his third day of campaigning focused on visiting premises operated by the Chinese and Indian communities in the state seat.

"After two days, the election atmosphere is quite cheerful, with a majority of the residents we visited showeing positive reception towards PN. Alhamdulillah.

"We will continue to stand with all people, irrespective of their race and religion, while addressing issues dear to the people.

"We cannot simply raise issues that might offend some segments of the community. What we can do is to provide all the necessary assistance to all the people," he said when met during his campaign here this morning.

Khairul Azhari is in a four-cornered battle in his bid to help PN wrest Kuala Kubu Baharu from Pakatan Harapan which is fielding Pang Sock Tao of DAP.

Apart from Khairul Azhari and Pang, also contesting at the state seat are Hafizah Zainudin of Parti Rakyat Malaysia and independent candidate Nyau Ke Xin.

The seat fell vacant following the death of its incumbent, the late Lee Kee Hiong, last month.
