Jewellery shop robbed

NIBONG TEBAL: Five robbers wearing ski masks robbed a jewellery shop at Sungai Bakap near here yesterday and escaped with RM500,000 worth of jewellery.
The robbers, including one armed with a pistol and another with a hammer, struck about 10am when the shop had just opened for business.
Seberang Prai Selatan district police chief Superintendent Shafien Mamat said the shopowner and his two sisters were in the outlet at the time.
The robbers smashed the display counters, scooped the jewellery into bags and escaped.
"The robbery was over in less than a minute," said Shafien,
Witnesses saw the robbers escaping in a dark blue Proton Wira.
The car was abandoned about 2km away where the robbers were believed to have gotten into another vehicle.
