KUALA LUMPUR: A youth was sentenced to six years’ jail for raping his 14-year-old girlfriend thrice over three months.
The youth, then aged 17, pleaded guilty to committing the offences between Sept 1 and Nov 13, 2006.
Now 21, he was charged with raping the girl:
* At a playground in Sentul about midnight between Sept 1 and Sept 15;
* At a bedroom in his cousin’s house in Sg Penchala between 8pm and 9pm on Nov 12; and
* At the same place the next morning.
The victim’s father was the complainant.
Welfare Department probation officer Hamidah Hassan said in her report that the accused had lost his father, whom he was very close to, in 2005 when he died of heart failure.
The accused also dropped out of school in Form Three and had been helping his friend with a night market business.
She said that should the court decide to impose whipping, it should be with a light rotan and not more than 10 strokes, in the presence of his parent or guardian.
Sessions Court judge Farthiyah Idris did not, however, mete out a caning punishment. She sentenced him to five years’ jail for the first offence and six years’ jail for each of the second and third offences.
The jail sentence is to run concurrently from May 28 last year when he was remanded.
DPP Noor Aishah Abu Bakar prosecuted.
