KUALA LUMPUR: MCA’s extraordinary general assembly (EGM) will be held together with its annual general meeting (AGM).
MCA secretary-general Datuk Wong Foon Meng said, however, he needs to discuss with the party’s legal bureau to decide on a suitable date for the meetings.
The party also needs to accommodate Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s schedule, as traditionally the AGM is opened by the prime minister.
“The EGM will be held together with the AGM so that members will not be inconvenienced,” said Wong when contacted today.
President Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat yesterday invoked his power under Article 30.1 of the party constitution to call for an EGM to let delegates decide whether MCA should have fresh elections.
However, the majority of the CC, led by vice-president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, disagreed, saying that there are better avenues to resolve the party problems.
According to the party’s constitution, the EGM has to be convened within 30 days but it could be halved if there is a need to do so.
The AGM however, has to be called by year end.
