Aid for farmers affected by floods

2009/11/09

JITRA: The Agriculture and Agrobased Industry Ministry will provide assistance to farmers whose crops were destroyed in the floods.

Its deputy minister, Datuk Mohd Johari Baharum, said the farmers would be given financial aid or seedlings to help them replant their crops.

"The aid will be given to all farmers, whether or not they are under the Muda Agriculture Development Authority (Mada)," he said after handing out food aid to flood victims in Kampung Tok Giam here today.

He said the ministry was awaiting reports from Mada on the damage incurred by farmers in Kedah and Perlis. However, Johari said the floods which hit Kedah did not cause huge damage to padi crop as the harvesting season had just ended. -Bernama
