Food suppliers in flood-affected areas to increase stockpile but not prices
2009/11/22
BERA: Wholesalers and shops can stock up additional food supply during the flood season said Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
Ismail Sabri said shops and wholesalers would be allowed to stock up an additional 30 percent of food supply to cater for those affected by floods, but the ruling will apply to only states affected by floods.
"Apart from being allowed to stock up basic food stuff like rice, flour, cooking oil, they will be required to supply such food products to affected areas without any increase in prices," he told reporters after opening a Community Games in Tementi, near Bera here today.
"People need not be concerned about lack of food supply during the flood season or for Hari Raya Haji because wholesalers and shops will have enough goods," he said. - BERNAMA
