Golf: McPherson seizes LPGA clubhouse lead, Shin one back
2009/11/23
HOUSTON, Texas, Mon: Kristy McPherson completed a five-under 67 as darkness fell yesterday to take the clubhouse lead in the weather-disrupted second round of the LPGA Tour Championship.
The American had an eight-under total of 136, while on the course South Korean Jiyai Shin was seven-under for the tournament with two holes remaining when play was halted.
Mexico’s Lorena Ochoa battling Shin for the Player of the Year title, was six-under with one hole to play.
Heavy rain pummelled the Houstonian Country Club course on Friday and Saturday, forcing tournament officials to cut the season-ending event to 54 holes.
Players were allowed to lift, clean and place Sunday on the sodden fairways.
The second round was to resume this morning. After a 36-hole cut to the top 70 and ties the third round was to follow immediately. - AFP
