Police on lookout for baby killer

KUALA LUMPUR, Mon: Police are seeking the help of their British counterparts and Interpol to confirm if a convicted Malaysian child killer was deported here secretly, a top police official said Monday.
Bakri Zinin, director of the criminal investigation department said police were trying to confirm if 29-year-old Agnes Wong, who was convicted of killing a 17-month-old boy in Britain, was in Malaysia.
“We have a understanding that they (British police) will inform us if they send back a convicted criminal of a serious offence. So far they have not informed us. We are checking whether she has entered the country,” he said.
“I do not know if she is in Malaysia or not,” Bakri added.
The British tabloid
Daily Mail has reported that Wong was returned to Malaysia without Malaysian police or the government’s knowledge.
It said Wong was handed 4,500 pounds sterling (US$7,400) to leave Britain after serving half of her five-year jail sentence for the offence. Wong was accompanied by British immigration officials on the flight to Kuala Lumpur on November 2.
The paper said Wong was convicted of the manslaughter of Hugo Wang, whom she was supposed to be looking after at her home in Salford, Greater Manchester, in 2008. - AFP
