Nik Aziz asked to assess position

2009/11/24

KOTA BARU: PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat has been asked to assess his position as the menteri besar of Kelantan following what is claimed to be his failure in resolving the issue over the appointment of his son-in-law as the chief executive officer of Kelantan Menteri Besar Incorporated.
Kelantan Umno Information Chief Dali Hussin said the time had come for Nik Aziz to consider whether he was still qualified to lead as some PAS members were not according him due respect.

Speaking to reporters after presenting aid to flood victims in the Kijang state constituency here today, he said the failure of Nik Aziz to resolve the issue over the appointment of his son-in-law, Abdul Arifffahmi Abdul Rahman, had prompted the PAS top leadership to advise him to instruct the relative to give up the post.

Dali said Umno feared that if the matter was allowed to prolong, it could be to the detriment of the people of Kelantan.

Meanwhile, Nik Aziz acknowledged today that he had been under emotional pressure of late over the issue involving his son-in-law.

He said that since the issue was reported in the media, he had been emotionally disturbed and was forced to shy away from reporters.

Nevertheless, he said, he felt relieved now that the issue had been resolved with his son-in-law being asked to vacate the post.
