2009/11/27
BESUT, Fri: Five friends emerged tired but safe from the Gunung Tebu recreational forest today just as rescuers were about to set out in search of them after they were reported lost overnight.
Mohd Asri Awang, 23, and Mohd Nor Iqbal Yusli, 18, of Machang, Kelantan, and Mohd Khaidir Che Noh, 25, Mohd Shahidan Salleh, 14, and the only female who wanted to be identified as Wan Haneesu, 22, of Kampung Anak Musang, spent the night on trees waiting for daybreak.
Besut deputy police chief DSP Roslan Hassan said the police were informed that Mohd Asri and Wan Haneesu had gone in search of something of medicinal value yesterday afternoon.
At about 4pm, they contacted the three others who were waiting at the foothill to send them food.
However, all five of them failed to return by 7pm as scheduled, and Mohd Asri's uncle, Mohamad Awang, lodged a report with the police.
Mohd Asri said they lost their way while returning as it became dark.
They set out again from the forest early today and arrived at the Lata Belatan recreational spot at about 11am.
Mohd Asri declined to reveal what it was they had been looking for. - Bernama
