Bogus police officer detained in Kuching

2009/11/29

KUCHING, Sun: A man who had been going around cheating people after claiming to be an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) from the Sg. Maong police station here has been detained by police.
One of his victims recognised the 37-year-old "ASP" while the latter was filling petrol into his car at a petrol station in Jalan Paatinggan Satok here at 11am today and after getting the assistance of members of the public nabbed the suspect who was attired in an ASP's uniform.

A police authority card was also found in his wallet. Kuching deputy police chief Supt Pauzi Bujang confirmed the arrest.

He said the man had been involved in eight cheating cases around this city the last two months.

"Dressed in the ASP uniform and flaunting his authority card, he would offer to sell laptop computers and handphones on the cheap.

"Once the victims had handed over money, he would tell them wait at nearbypolice stations to collect their goods but would vanish instead," he told Bernama. - Bernama
