Changes in PKA policies

2009/11/21

By Lydia Gomez

KUALA LUMPUR: The Port Klang Authority (PKA) will implement a whistle-blower policy and strengthen its internal auditing.
It is following recommendations by the Corporate Governance Ad Hoc Committee on the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) project and the Special Task Force on the PKFZ.

PKA chairman Datuk Lee Hwa Beng said the recommendations would be implemented with the help of ad hoc committee president Datuk Paul Low, who is also the president of Transparency International Malaysia (TI-M).

The PKFZ special task force is headed by Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Sidek Hassan.

Lee said the PKA and TI-M will organise a seminar on corporate governance next year for all port authorities and industry players, as directed by Transport Minister Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat.

Other recommendations made by the ad hoc committee are the creation of the Ethics and Integrity Monitoring Committee and the appointment of independent non-executive members, who would constitute one-third of the PKA board of directors.

Lee said the PKA is looking for qualified experts to fill two independent director vacancies.

At the moment, former PKA general manager Datuk M. Rajasingam is the only independent director.
