Aqilah, 17, made known her wishes to excel in her Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia examinations later this year to cap her fine run at the just concluded Malaysia Games, where she bagged three gold and two bronze medals.

KUALA TERENGGANU: The city’s decades old Pasar Payang will make way for a new RM78 million structure that will transform the traditional wet-and-dry daily market into a modern central market.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said that the time has come for the old complex to make way for a modern pasar (market) in view of the changing times and to meet the requirements of modern day living.
“I saw and surveyed the situation at the old market and am aware of the changes that have to be done for better comfort.

KUALA TERENGGANU: Three local stars will spearhead the state’s challenge at the Terengganu Surfing Cup 2016, which aims to attract 130 local and international participants.
State Tourism and Culture Committee deputy chairman II Tengku Zaihan Che Ku Abd Rahman said Ahmad Didaq Mussadiq, 20, Nazreen Yen, 21, and Azmi Awang, 28, will see action at the event on Feb 12-14 at the Batu Burok beach.
Didaq won this year’s Borne Surf Event, Desaru Surf Contest and Cherating Cup and was second at last year’s Cherating International Surf and Tioman Surf Festival.

KUALA TERENGGANU: Just a day after Terengganu state secretary Datuk Osman Muda said that the state fatwa council had deferred its edict on vapes, or electronic cigarettes, the state mufti today declared the items as ‘haram’.
Mufti Datuk Zulkifly Muda said that the Terengganu Fatwa Council, after a marathon meeting on Tuesday, had unanimously concurred with the earlier National Fatwa Council decision and that of the Malaysian Islamic Development (Jakim) on vapes.

KUALA TERENGGANU: China will be one of the main sources of the 5.5 million visitors expected during Visit Beautiful Terengganu (VBT) 2017.
This was evident from 3,000 Asean-and-beyond guests – one third of whom were Chinese – who were the pioneer batch of tourists at VBT 2017’s special welcome reception at the state indoor stadium in Gong Badak last night.

KUALA TERENGGANU: A total of 628 people have been evacuated as of 10am to eight relief centres following floods triggered by heavy overnight rain in Terengganu.
No casualties have been reported thus far.
A state flood operations centre spokesman said that 207 victims were placed at Masjid Kampung Peneh and Pusat Pemindahan Bukit Tadok in Hulu Terengganu; 305 in Dewan Gerakan Desa Tenang, Masjid Kampung La and Dewan Serbaguna Kampung Keruak in Besut; 86 in Dewan Sivik Paka and Sekolah Kebangsaan Durian Mentagau in Dungun; and 30 at Sekolah Kebangsaan Pasir Putih in Marang.

KUALA TERENGGANU: Terengganu folks were treated to a melodious taste of traditional Chinese and contemporary English music, blended in a Malaysian style, from a visiting Sarawakian band here recently.
The 40-member band from the Kenwy Music and Arts Academy in Kuching, accompanied by the Terengganu Buddhist Association’s (TBA) cultural troupe, entertained visitors at an event at SJK Chong Hwa Wei Sin here, with three hours of non-stop enchanting music and dance.

KUALA TERENGGANU: Over an estimated RM5bil in tourism revenue is expected to be reaped from the 5.6 million visitors for the ‘Visit Beautiful Terengganu (VBT) 2017’ programme.

NST Terengganu's sports stringer, Zainuddin Muhammad, passes away1 January 2017 @ 5:22 PM
KUALA TERENGGANU: New Straits Times’ Terengganu branch sports stringer, Zainuddin Muhammad, passed away this morning at the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital.
He was suffering from chronic kidney disease. Zainuddin, 52, had also served as Terengganu’s T-Team soccer media officer.
According to his wife Rozina Mohd Ikram, 52, Zainuddin was diagnosed with the disease about a year ago and had regularly sought treatment at the hospital.
She said he was admitted to the hospital recently for complications.
