Aqilah, 17, made known her wishes to excel in her Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia examinations later this year to cap her fine run at the just concluded Malaysia Games, where she bagged three gold and two bronze medals.

KUALA TERENGGANU: The city’s decades old Pasar Payang will make way for a new RM78 million structure that will transform the traditional wet-and-dry daily market into a modern central market.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said that the time has come for the old complex to make way for a modern pasar (market) in view of the changing times and to meet the requirements of modern day living.
“I saw and surveyed the situation at the old market and am aware of the changes that have to be done for better comfort.

KUALA TERENGGANU: Three local stars will spearhead the state’s challenge at the Terengganu Surfing Cup 2016, which aims to attract 130 local and international participants.
State Tourism and Culture Committee deputy chairman II Tengku Zaihan Che Ku Abd Rahman said Ahmad Didaq Mussadiq, 20, Nazreen Yen, 21, and Azmi Awang, 28, will see action at the event on Feb 12-14 at the Batu Burok beach.
Didaq won this year’s Borne Surf Event, Desaru Surf Contest and Cherating Cup and was second at last year’s Cherating International Surf and Tioman Surf Festival.

KUALA TERENGGANU: Just a day after Terengganu state secretary Datuk Osman Muda said that the state fatwa council had deferred its edict on vapes, or electronic cigarettes, the state mufti today declared the items as ‘haram’.
Mufti Datuk Zulkifly Muda said that the Terengganu Fatwa Council, after a marathon meeting on Tuesday, had unanimously concurred with the earlier National Fatwa Council decision and that of the Malaysian Islamic Development (Jakim) on vapes.

KUALA TERENGGANU: The Terengganu Cycling Team (TSG) is demonstrating its prowess by grabbing five Jerseys at the start of the Le Tour de Filipinas.
TSG rider Daniel Whitehouse kept the east coast peninsula state’s flag flying high in the Philippines when he won the first stage of the race, for the overall leader’s Yellow Jersey.
Whitehouse clocked 3:56.3 hours for the 164.5km ride from Legaspi City to Sorgoson City, beating a sea of polished international riders.

KUALA TERENGGANU: For 90 minutes last night, central Kuala Terengganu was abuzz with over 500 cycling enthusiasts and international professionals passing through on a promotional tour.
The riders were taking part in the ‘City Fun Night Ride’ hosted by the Terengganu Cycling Team (TSG) and the state Sports Council.
TSG chairman Tengku Datuk Farouk Husin Tengku Abdul Jalil, who is also Kuala Nerus district officer, said the event was a prelude to Wednesday’s start of the 2017 Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) at Kuala Berang.

KUALA TERENGGANU: Those with 'basikal nyamuk' (heavily-modified bicycles) should not be permitted to ride them on public roads, as they could pose a danger not only to themselves, but also other users.
Cycling coach Daud Mohamad, a respected 37-year veteran of the sport, said such there is a time and place for such activities, but public roads are not among them.
He said many of these cyclists are young and may be unaware of the dangers posed to themselves and other road-users.

M. Balasundram, a former Penang deputy police chief, died of pneumonia on Thursday at the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) in Kuala Lumpur.
As scores of senior police officers, friends and relatives mourned and came to bid farewell to one of the nation’s most daring officer, his home in Jalan 12/16A, Petaling Jaya was a hive of activity.
