PUTRAJAYA: Mondelēz International, the manufacturer of Toblerone and Daim brand of chocolates has clarified today that the ingredients used in both products are suitable for Muslim consumers.
Mondelez Malaysia Corporate and Government Affairs head Raja Zalina Raja Safran said both chocolates did not carry a halal logo because they are produced in countries that do not require such certifications.

PUTRAJAYA: A photo of a fake letter which has gone viral on social media, claimed to have been written and signed by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, has been denounced as an attempt to divide the Umno leadership.
Circulated mainly through WhatsApp and Facebook, the fake letter contains a request by Zahid for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to resign, and includes a list of new cabinet members under Zahid as Prime Minister.

PUTRAJAYA: No Malaysians were involved in the explosion which struck Chelsea, New York, yesterday.
The Foreign Ministry said local authorities are currently investigating the cause of the explosion.
"No Malaysians were identified to be involved in the incident.
"The ministry, through the Consulate General of Malaysia in New York, will continue to monitor the situation accordingly," it said in a statement.
Reports indicated that 29 people were injured in the incident.

PUTRAJAYA: A 27-year-old pregnant woman in Johor Baru was tested positive with Zika yesterday, making her the third case of the mosquito-borne virus infection in the country.
Health Minister Datuk Dr S. Subramaniam said the woman, from Taman Desa Harmoni, is being treated at a public hospital in Johor Baru.
"The patient, who is three to four months pregnant, sought medical treatment at a hospital after showing signs of fever, rashes and body ache.
“Tests on her urine and blood samples showed that she has been infected with Zika.”

PUTRAJAYA: Three civil servants including a ‘Datuk’ and a ‘Datuk Seri’ were arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today for corruption, abuse of power and money-laundering.
The authorities also froze RM13 million in their bank accounts, including savings accounts and unit trusts amounting between RM1 million and RM6 million.
Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) investigations division director Datuk Azam Baki said the operation was launched simultaneously in Kuala Lumpur, Malacca and Kelantan.

PUTRAJAYA : The government will announce a heat wave emergency if the temperature of an area in the country exceeds 40 degrees celsius for more than seven days.
Schools will also be ordered to shut down temporarily if the temperature exceeds 37 degrees celsius for more than three days.
Natural Resources and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said this was based on the action plan to deal with the heat wave, which took effect today.

Dr Mahathir said he has decided to quit the party as he was “ashamed” of the party’s image, claiming that it was dedicated only towards protecting Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, who is also Umno president.
“I am very ashamed with what had happened. There is no longer Umno, but only a 'Najib' party.

PUTRAJAYA : The Department of Occupational Safety and Health (Dosh) will improve and upgrade escalator safety features in public places following the latest incident which left a boy with a severed foot on Feb 8.
Dosh said it would conduct a thorough study on escalator safety including its technical, usage and human factor which could cause accidents.
“DOSH will improve existing legislation on escalator safety, including tightening its safety features and premise management where the machines are installed.

PUTRAJAYA : The Philippine authorities have verbally confirmed that a human head found in Southern Philippines belonged to Malaysian hostage Bernard Then, based on DNA tests, said Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar.
"We have yet to receive a formal letter from our counterpart in the Philippine, but they have verbally informed us that the DNA test confirmed that the head was that of Bernard.
