KUALA LUMPUR: To attract more youngsters, Umno needs a new narrative based on hope and the future, instead of one that harps on past successes.
Umno Overseas Club (UOC) representatives Afiq Adham Muhammad Fadhil said while it is a known fact that the party is focused on taking care of the bottom-40 (B40) group and those living in rural areas, such a narrative must be changed if Umno wants more support from millennials.
"Our generation needs a struggle that we can relate to, an Umno that will give attention to urbanites and those in the middle-40 (M40) group.

PUCHONG: Just two days after he clocked in as the new Immigration Department director-general, Datuk Mustafar Ali led a team of 50 immigration officers in a raid here, tonight.
The operation, which began at 11.30pm, saw 110 people screened at three pubs in Bandar Baru Puchong.
From the total, the authorities detained 84 illegal immigrants and three employers' representatives of various nationalities for offences under the Immigration Act 1959/63, Passport Act 1966 and the Immigration Rules 1963.

KUALA LUMPUR: A British Council survey has named Malaysia as "best performer" in national policies on openness to international higher education along with Germany.
The 'Shape of Global Higher Education: National Policies Framework for International Engagement' report published today, examined policies in 26 nations by assessing them against 37 qualitative indicators.

KUALA LUMPUR: All 259 schools in Perlis, as well as the districts of Jerantut and Temerloh in Pahang, have been ordered by the Education Ministry to close tomorrow for a day due to extreme hot weather.
In a statement issued today, the ministry said checks showed that the weather had been hot and dry in the three areas surpassing 37 Celsius daily, over a period of 72 hours.

KUALA LUMPUR : The debris found in Mozambique early this month "almost certainly" came from Malaysia Airlines (then MAS) flight MH370, bringing experts closer to what went missing on March 8, two years ago.
Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said the dimensions, materials and construction of the debris conform to the specifications of a Boeing 777 aircraft.
He said apart from that, the paint and stenciling on both debris matched those used by MAS for their planes.

KUALA LUMPUR: Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) today declared a bonus payment of eight per cent for the financial year of 2015.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom said the bonus comprises five per cent annual bonus and three per cent Haj bonus.
The Haj bonus is given to depositors who have yet to perform their pilgrimage.
"Alhamdulillah, even with the challenging environment full of uncertainties, Tabung Haji has still managed to remain competitive.

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today expressed his shock over reports that two Malaysians were involved in the recent suicide bombings in Iraq and Syria.
He said such an ideology neither belonged in Malaysia nor was derived from Islam.

KUALA LUMPUR: Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said has taken a swipe at opposition-held states, saying that property prices in the states were too expensive for the bottom 40 (B40) Malays.
Azalina in a written reply in Parliament to Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail (PKR-Permatang Pauh), said the integrity of Malays were being challenged and it was worrying that there was a low level of property ownership among Malays, particularly in Penang and Selangor.

KUALA LUMPUR: Poor visibility is recorded in the Klang Valley as Malaysians have to suffer from haze due to the peat fires in Indonesia.
The visibility for areas in Klang Valley are 900 meters for Subang, 800 meters for Sepang and 400 metres for Petaling Jaya as 12pm.
According to the Environment Department's portal, all areas in Klang Valley however recorded a moderate Air Pollutant Index (API).
