HARI Raya is almost around the corner. It’s time to once again gather friends, family and neighbours around the table to enjoy ketupat, rendang tok, satay, roti jala, ayam masak merah, cookies, cakes and more.

Platinum or gold-rimmed tableware from Royal Albert will add a touch of elegance to your Raya celebration. Its well-known dinner and tea sets with warm hues and floral motives conjure up summer flowers in bloom. Royal Albert is one of the most popular manufacturers of bone china tableware.

If you would like to get a gift for below RM100, a Royal Albert bone china mug with purple flowers which normally costs RM89.90 is now 20 per cent cheaper.

Another hot-selling item is the Di Venezz. This brand’s 24K gold trim Royal Bluebell tea set (RM799), is retailing at RM499 while a 49-piece dinner set (RM2,699) is going for RM1,688.

When you buy one of these products, you are entitled to buy a beautiful  three-tier cake-stand (RM299) at RM29.90.

Merchandising and operations manager Wong Yee May said that other brands that are available are Ashdene of Australia, Luminarc from France, Scanpan from Denmark, Brabantia, Royal Crystal Rock from Italy, Berndes from Germany and the shop’s brand, La Gourmet.

There is also a wide range of household items from Italy, Holland, Belgium and other European countries.

Unique products that might tickle your fancy are Berndes Quandro ovenware. These non-stick vacuum-pressure cast aluminium cookware have special terracotta lids and look good enough to be used as cook-and-serve ware.

The Raya Crystal Gallery, set up just for this period, offers a few RCR products at below RM100. There are also beautifully packaged Ashdene mugs, jugs and melamine trays going at special prices. Some of the jugs come with strainers. I saw one set where the top half is a jug and, when lifted up, a surprise in the form of a coffee mug lay below!

Other gift ideas include vases and thermal flask Jeans (which is a stainless steel thermal flask with designs of blue denim jeans), and snack jars at between RM49.90 and RM99.90 each. A Luminarc jug and six glasses are on sale for  RM49.90 and one-litre pop-jars at between RM22.90 and RM29.90 each.

If you do not want to risk chipping precious china, you can get colourful serviettes and paper plates imported from Italy. Bibo dessert plates and dinner plates cost RM6.90 and RM7.90  respectively for 10 pieces.
