National food bazaar launched

SEREMBAN: Some 10,000 people thronged the Tuanku Abd Rahman Stadium in Paroi yesterday for the launch of the national level Ramadan Bazaar.

There were 200 stalls available at the bazaar, organised by the Tourism Ministry.

The launch was officiated by Negri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan. Also present were Tourism Ministry deputy secretary-general Abd Ghaffar Tambi, who represented minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, state secretary Datuk Norzam Mohd Nor and TV3 chief executive officer Datuk Farid Ridzuan.

In his speech, Mohamad reminded traders to ensure that they maintain the cleanliness of their stalls as well as the food that they sell.

"This is important as we do not want anything bad to happen to customers when they consume the food," Mohamad said.

Tengku Adnan, in his speech read by Ghaffar, said the bazaar could be used to attract tourists to Malaysia as it showcased the unity of the different races in the country.

"The stalls not only attract the participation of Muslims but also the non-Muslims.

"This demonstrates the tolerance of Malaysians in professing each other’s faith and beliefs," Tengku Adnan said.

At the launch, a new record won entry to the Malaysia Book of Records when 200 pots of bubur lambuk were prepared simultaneously.

The bubur lambuk was distributed to those present as well as to other districts in the state.

Those present were also entertained to performances by Hijjaz, Rabbani and Yassin.
