Special buka puasa treat for 100 kids - By Ili Liyana Mokhtar

KUALA LUMPUR: Squeals of laughter filled the air at a special buka puasa session at Best Western Premier Seri Pacific Hotel yesterday.

It was only to be expected, as for most, if not all, of the "guests of honour", it was the first time they had ever had a meal at a hotel.

The guests were about 100 children from Persatuan Anak-Anak Yatim Dan Ibu Tunggal Kampung Medan and Rumah Nur Salam Chow Kit.

"This is my first time having a meal in a hotel with my friends. I feel very excited, since this is my first time fasting too," said Siti Aisyah Rasiran, 5, from Rumah Nur Salam Chow Kit.

The buka puasa was hosted by the Kiwanis Club, Cheras, and Best Western Premier Seri Pacific Hotel. It was supported by Mamee-Double Decker (M) Sdn Bhd.

"I feel that the Ramadan month is a special time for everyone to focus on the community around us, especially the less privileged," said hotel general manager Jean F. Wassner.

The children were entertained by the Mamee Monster and the young ones immediately took to it as they jostled for position to take pictures and hug it.

The children from Rumah Nur Salam also entertained with a short dance performance.

"We feel very blessed to be treated to dinner. I’m especially happy for the children, since it is not often that they get to enjoy themselves," said single mother Kamariah Lasim, 60, from Persatuan Anak-Anak Yatim Dan Ibu Tunggal Kampung Medan.

The children also received duit raya and goodie bags.
