KUALA LUMPUR: A talkative Nur Aishah Najihah Ali was seen busy colouring a cartoon character in her book while having a buka puasa treat with her mother and some friends.
“I love Mickey Mouse and would like to have a Mickey Mouse watch. But my mum cannot afford to buy me one,” said the 7-year-old whose father died four years ago.
Nur Aishah Najihah Ali, 7, and her mother, Siti Jantan, were treated at a breaking of fast ceremony by Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor.
Her mother, Siti Jantan, is supporting Aishah and her other siblings with money collected from their rented house.
“I get RM400 monthly and that’s just enough to buy daily necessities and school needs,” said Siti.
Aishah was one of the children from Rumah Hajah Kamariah Taman Medan shelter who enjoyed a breaking of fast treat sponsored by Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas) at its headquarters here on Thursday.
Thirty children and 15 single mothers from the shelter also received goodie bags and contributions.
Syabas also presented insurance payout worth RM141,588 to Umi Kalsom Mohd Ali, 52, the wife of Adanan Ahmad, a Syabas employee who died on duty last May.
“I’m grateful for the compensation but Ramadan and Hari Raya will not be the same without my husband,” Kalsom said.
The event closed with terawih prayers. Present were Selangor executive councillor Datuk Abdul Fatah Iskandar and Syabas chief executive officer Datuk Ruslan Hassan. About 600 Syabas staff and media members were present.
