APPOINTMENTS: International academic and scientist at the helm
A LEADER: Professor Graeme Wilkinson took over from Professor Robert Bignall as Sunway University vice chancellor on July 1.
Wilkinson is responsible for providing strategic direction and leadership for the university, representing it both at home and abroad. With this appointment, the university is the only home-grown institution with an international academic as vice chancellor.
Wilkinson most recently held the position of pro vice chancellor for academic affairs at Glyndwr University, United Kingdom. Born in England, he graduated with first-class honours in Physics from Imperial College, London, and received a doctorate in Atmospheric Physics from Oxford University in 1977.
He was awarded the Johnson Memorial Prize for his work on remote sensing.
Wilkinson's career has seen him take up lecturing positions at several highly regarded universities in the UK, including University College London.
