    Cancer is a two-syllable word that strikes fear into the hearts of many people. The word is often related to a horrible disease that shortens the life span of those afflicted by it.

    Do you read the list of ingredients on food labels? If not, you could be eating additives that are dangerous to your health without knowing it. There are various chemicals used in food that lead to cancer. Here are some cancer-causing chemicals that you should stay away from in the food you eat.

    • Saccharin
    This is an artificial sweetener that is known to cause cancer. In 2000, saccharin was removed from the list of cancer-causing chemicals, even though studies still show that it causes cancer in lab animals.

    • Bubble tea or pearl milk tea
    Milk essence, the main ingredient, gives the bubble tea its fragrance and makes it flavoursome. The fragrance and tastiness are derived from traces of arsenic, lead, copper and many other harmful minerals. Besides cancer, long-term consumption of these elements can lead to other health complications like heart and blood-vessel diseases.

    • Potassium Bromate
    Used to treat flour to give baked goods a sponge-like quality, this is another chemical that is possibly life-threatening. It is also present in toothpaste, mouth washes and gargles. It is banned worldwide, except in the United States and in Japan.

    • Diet sodas
    The use of artificial sugar,  aspartame makes the drink cancer-causing agents.

    • Grilled or barbecued food
    Cooking food at high temperatures  can lead to the formation of minute quantities of potent carcinogens that are comparable to those found in cigarette smoke.

    So, let’s start taking more precautions to avoid things that cause cancer.
