What is the difference between Merlin and David Copperfield? They are both famous magicians, but one is a real man and the other is a legend.
Merlin is an Arthurian enchanter or wizard. He is perhaps the most famous mythical magician of all time. No one knows whether he existed, but many stories have been written about him and his magic. Merlin had many superhuman powers. He could teleport people and things through dimensions. He could also change his looks.
In one of the stories about him, Merlin entered Rome looking like a stag. However, that could have been an illusion. Merlin used magic potions and had enough foresight to tell the future. He became one of the king’s greatest advisors.
When David Copperfield was robbed in 2006, he had nothing in his pockets, even though he had been carrying his passport, wallet and cell phone. He managed to save his belongings using his magician’s tricks.
A magician’s abilities can be useful as well as dangerous. He almost died while rehearsing an illusion called Escape from Death, where he was tied up and handcuffed in a tank of water. Copperfield was caught in the chains and started banging on the sides of the tank. He was pulled from the water and taken to a hospital.
A few of Copperfield’s famous tricks include Vanishing the Statue of Liberty, Walking through the Great Wall of China and Walking on Water. In one of his most astounding tricks — making the Statue of Liberty disappear — he shone two searchlights through the space where the statue had stood, proving there was nothing blocking the way. Even today, not many magicians can equal Copperfield.
We know that David Copperfield’s magic is just an illusion. He uses modern technology to create them. But are there real magicians like Merlin out there? One who practices black magic and uses potions to achieve his needs? Maybe.
I think magicians like that would be frightening indeed!
