16 Tok Bali residents seek fair compensation for land
PASIR PUTEH: Sixteen residents of Tok Bali want the Kelantan state government to give fair compensation based on current valuation of their land taken for the construction of a jetty.
The state government plans to develop the project involving 20 hectares by offering compensation of RM70,000 for each 0.46 hectare to those with land titles compared to the current price of RM200,000-RM300,000.
Mat Yaakub Abdullah, 54, who owns 0.8 hectares said those without land titles were only offered compensation of RM2,000-RM8,000 as consolation.
Ramlah Samat, 60, who has 12.46 hectares said only RM8,000 was offered as compensation for the land inherited from her father.
"I was never consulted about it. Suddenly, some people came and fenced up my land for development purposes," she told reporters here today.
Mat Nawi Sulaiman,54, said the residents were not opposed to development but only hope for a fair compensation based on the current market valuation.
He said the land titles must be given to all involved without favour as many still did not have them despite owning the land for generations. Construction of the jetty by the private sector in strategic Tok Bali has great potential for commercial buildings including hotels. -- BERNAMA
