Bangi market stall owners eager to meet PM

KUALA LUMPUR: Excitement is in the air at the public market at Section 1, Bandar Baru Bangi, one of the stops for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, during his visit to Bangi for the Jelajah Janji Ditepati carnival on Sunday.

Many of the stall operators said they looked forward to having Najib visit their 17-year old market and meeting him face to face.

They also hoped that the visit would also see the market being given a major facelift.

Najib is slated to have his breakfast at a foodcourt beside the market.

Vegetable and fruit seller Fauziah Kamaruzaman, 40, who has been plying her trade at the market since it opened in 1995, said she was excited about Najib's visit there.

"This is the first time that the country's prime minister is visiting this market.

"Although the market is in good shape and we enjoy brisk business, it will be good to upgrade it so that it can be expanded and modernised for the people's comfort."

Coconut milk seller, Hanafi Isa, 51, is equally excited about Najib's visit and the holding of the Jelajah Janji Ditepati carnival in Bangi.

He said the local community was eagerly hoping the visit would bring good tidings.

For Mohd Sani Leoh, 46, who runs a food business at the nearby foodcourt, it is his ardent hope that Najib would stop and eat at his stall.

It is learnt that Najib will randomly choose the stalls at the foodcourt to have his breakfast.

Najib is expected to arrive at the Malaysian Tax Academy at Teras Jernang in Bangi, the venue for the Jelajah Janji Ditepati carnival on Sunday with 100,000 people expected to gather there.

The carnival also offers the chance for the crowd to take part in various activities and interact with the various government agencies there.

They can also buy affordable 1Malaysia brand products and learn about the 1Malaysia Housing Programme.

There will also be special activities by the Defence Ministry in conjunction with Warriors' Day on July 31, a public safety demonstration by well known crime analyst Kamal Affendi Hashim and evening performances by local artistes and bands.

Seven government-linked companies, including Telekom Malaysia, Perodua and Tabung Haji, will also be represented at the carnival.
