    Bangladeshi held over 18 extortion cases

    KUALA LUMPUR: The police have detained a Bangladeshi who was linked to 18 extortion cases involving compatriots since 2008.

     

    The 33-year-old suspect was picked up on Aug 15.
     
    Kuala Lumpur CID chief Datuk Ku Chin Wah said the Bangladesh Embassy had received reports the suspect had extorted RM1,000 from each of his victims after threatening them with serious harm, if they failed to pay up.
     
    He said the victims worked as labourers in the construction industry.
     
    Speaking to reporters today, Ku said that last March, the man had extorted RM2,360 from a compatriot at a house in Jalan Bangsar.
     
    In another development, the police nabbed a 27-year-old Iranian here to facilitate investigations into the murder of Farhad Sandiani, 32, at an entertainment outlet in Jalan P. Ramlee here on Aug 18. 
     
    Ku said the first suspect, aged 40, was picked up on the day of the killing. -- BERNAMA
