TASEK GELUGOR: The Tasek Gelugor Barisan Nasional (BN) is confident of retaining the parliamentary seat and the three state seats under the constituency in the soon-to-be-held general election.

Tasek Gelugor Division BN chairman Shabudin Yahaya said the confidence was based on the favourable feedback received from constituents on the projects and programmes implemented in the suburban constituency.

"The people in the area are supportive of BN which has implemented various projects and programmes for their well-being.

"Based on our observation and feedback, the people's acceptance and support for BN are increasing by the day as the constituents firmly believe only the BN has the clout and capacity to bring development to the area.

"I and my colleagues in Umno, MCA, MIC, Gerakan and PPP believe we can retain the four seats with a bigger majority in the imminent general election," said

Shabudin, who is also Permatang Berangan state assemblyman, to reporters after launching the division's youth election onslaught programme attended by some 1,000 youth leaders and members from BN component parties.

Also present was Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop who is also the incumbent Tasek Gelugor Member of Parliament.

Permatang Berangan, Sungai Dua and Telok Ayer Tawar are the three state seats under the Tasek Gelugor parliamentary constituency.

Shabudin said the support for BN from the youths in the division was also increasing as evident from their active involvement and participation in programmes and community events organised by the coalition.

"The youths who made up about 40 per cent of the 53,000 people living in Tasek Gelugor are actively taking part in our political and social programmes and I believe they will readily give their mandate to BN.

"The youths here are not involved in activities organised by opposition parties such as the Bersih rally and street protests as they believe such gatherings are not the true and sincere struggles for the people's well-being," he said.

Shabudin also said the Tasek Gelugor BN Youth election machinery was ready with its work programme and to swing into action to counter lies and concocted stories spread by opposition leaders against the government and the leaders.

"Our youth election machinery will move systematically in accordance with our plan that has been set out in the 27 polling districts to romp home a resounding victory for BN in Tasek Gelugor," he added. Bernama
