SHANGHAI: Chinese shares edged slightly lower in morning trade Friday, as hopes of policies to boost the slowing economy helped offset weak manufacturing data for May announced a day earlier, dealers said.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index, which covers A and B shares, slipped 0.12 percent, or 2.82 points, to 2,348.15.
Chinese manufacturing activity contracted in May for the seventh month as exports deteriorated, with the preliminary purchasing managers’ index falling to 48.7 from 49.3 in April, HSBC said Thursday. -- AFP
