Kuala Lumpur: All companies nationwide are advised against increasing the price of their goods by giving the excuse that this was due to the implementation of minimum wages for the private sector.
Secretary-General of the Ministry of Human Resources Datuk Seri Zainal Rahim Seman said the government would monitor any price increase and stern action would be taken against the errant companies.
However, the issue might not exist as the implementation only involved a marginal production cost," he said in the Bernama Radio24 'Dalam Radar' programme.
Zainal also stressed that there was no reason for the employer to not implement the minimum wages as it had already been agreed upon.
He said it was compulsory for a company with at least five or more employees to implement it within six months after the minimum wage was gazetted and a year for a company with less than five employees.
However, he reminded that any employers or companies that needed an extension of the implementation should apply to the National Wages Consultative Council (NWCC) to avoid from any action being taken against them under the NWCC Act 2011.
On April 30, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak announced that the minimum wage for workers in Peninsular Malaysia had been set at RM900 a month or RM4.33 per hour while for Sarawak, Sabah and Labuan, the quantum was RM800 per month or RM3.85 an hour. -- Bernama
