    Deep interest for Malaysia-China industrial park in Kuantan

    NANNING: Investors from China had shown deep interest in the development of the sister industrial park between Malaysia and China in Kuantan, said Malaysia consulate-general in Kunming, Mohamad Nasri Abdul Rahman.

     

    Last year, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said the government was carrying out detailed studies on the implementation of the project in a move to reciprocate China's efforts to keep aside a 55 square kilometre land in Qinzhou here as the Qinzhou Industrial Park, a joint venture project between the two countries.
     
    Najib had also said that he had requested the Pahang state government to prepare a 1,500-acre land for China to set up the industrial park there.
     
    Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin is scheduled to open the Malaysian Pavillion during the annual ninth Asean-China exposition (Caexpo) at the Nanning International Convention And Exhibition Centre (NICEC) on Thursday.
     
    Muhyiddin is expected to be briefed on the progress of the project by China-Malaysia Qinzhaou Industrial Park representatives.
     
    "Many investors from China want to be involved in the project in logistics and others. The interest shown so far is great and the meeting between Tan Sri Muhyiddin and Chinese investors is expected to focus on vital points like how we can bring in products from China directly through Kuantan Port," he told Malaysian journalists here today.
     
    Two Malaysian companies, Rimbunan Hijau Group and SP Setia Bhd with two Chinese companies - Chian Guangzi Beibu Gulf International Port Group and Qinzhou Jingu Investment Company, both based here, had signed a memorandum of understanding on the project last year.
     
    Besides meeting China key industry players, Muhyiddin who will be here until Friday, will also hold bilateral meeting with China vice-president Xi Jinping.
     
    Trade volume between Malaysia-China since early this year was reported at RM103 billion against RM92 billion last year.
     
    Some 136 Malaysian companies, specialising in food and beverages, coffe products, health and wellness, lifestyle and services, are participating in the five-day exposition which starts tomorrow. 
     
    In last year's expo, some 100 Malaysian exhibitors raked in sales of about RM200 million, and for this year, Mohamad Nasri said more than RM250 million could be generated.
     
    The expo has been held here since 2004 under an agreement between China and Asean.
     
    "Having hosted the Caexpo annually for the past eight years, the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region has been the centrepoint of bilateral relations between Malaysia and China," Mohamad Nasri added.
     
    Muhyiddin will be accompanied by his wife Puan Seri Noorainee Abdul Rahman, Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Chor Chee Heung, Deputy International Trade and Industry Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir, prime minister's special envoy to China, Tan Sri Ong Ka Ting and MCA president, Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek.
