Ethopian housewife charged for trafficking 90kg 'cathinone'

SEPANG: An Ethopian housewife, who is also a Canadian permanent resident, was charged in the magistrate's court for trafficking 90kg of a drug identified as "cathinone".

 No plea was recorded from Muna Muhammad Ibraheem, 36 as the charge that carried the death penalty came within the jurisdiction of the High Court.
 She was alleged to have committed the offence at the Import and Free Zone unit of the Customs Department at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport about 12.30pm on Aug 2.
 Muna, 36, a mother of two, had arrived in Malaysia in late July. She had gone to the airport to claim a consignment of 10 boxes which were sent by her sister from Ethopia.
 The goods were to be repackaged here before being sent to the United Kingdom.
 Sessions Court Judge Nulhelmy Hassan, who sat as magistrate, fixed the case for mention on Oct 16 pending the completion of the chemist report.
 Since this is a non-bailable offence, Muna will be held at the Kajang prison while waiting for the case to be transferred to the High Court for trial.
 Deputy Public Prosecutor Afidah Nor Ariffin prosecuted while lawyers Zaflee Pakwanteh and Emrad Juandi appeared for Muna.
