UMNO ELECTION: Nomination Day Timeline

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno leaders nationwide today submit their nominations for the party's central level posts. All eyes will be on the contest for the three vice president posts which may see a six-cornered fight. Below is the timeline on what is happening at the Umno headquarters here and state level.

- After 31 yrs, Johor Baru MP, Tan Sri Shahrir Samad is challenged in a straight fight with Zulkifli Ismail for the division's top post
 
- PM and Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Razak won Pekan Umno Division chief post uncontested.
 
- Datuk Seri Najib Razak and Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yasssin won uncontested their respective posts as Umno president and deputy president.
 
- Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman won uncontested the Libaran Umno division chief post after nomination closed at 5pm
 
- Only 4 out of 15 division chiefs in Kedah won uncontested, while the rest will battle it out either in a straight or multi-cornered fights
 
- Khairy Jamaluddin won uncontested the Rembau Umno deputy division chief post after nomination closed at 5pm.
 
- Education Minister II Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh and Besut Umno chief won the deputy chief post uncontested
 
5.06pm: Science, Technology and Innovation Deputy Minister Prof Datuk Dr Abu Bakar Mohamad Diah won the seat of Tangga Batu Umno division deputy chief unopposed.
 
5.00pm: All seats for Kota Melaka Umno division chief, deputy chief, vice chief, division Wanita chief, division Youth chief and division Puteri chief were won uncontested as the party's election nomination period ended at 5pm today
 
5.00pm: Nomination period for Umno party election closes.
 
NEWSBREAK AT 4.45pm: Muadzam Shah state assemblyman Datuk Maznah Mazlan springs surprise to contest for Wanita Umno chief.
 
PERAK: Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Hamzah Zainuddin had pulled out from contesting the Larut Umno division chief post in the party elections next month.
 
As of 4pm, Umno Secretariat has received 76 nomination forms for the Supreme Council posts, Wanita (53), Pemuda (92) and Puteri (38)
 
BUKIT MERTAJAM: Nibong Tebal Umno division chairman Datuk Zainal Abidin Osman who was previously thought will retain his post uncontested is expected to be challenged by his predecessor, Datuk Abdul Rashid Abdullah and the division's former information chief Zulkafli Kamaruddin.
 
KUANTAN: Only winnable candidates should contest for the top positions at Umno divisions to avoid a multi-cornered fight, Pahang Umno liaison committee chairman Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob said today.
 
KOTA KINABALU: Aspiring candidate for Beaufort Saridah Mohd Dun was surprised her sister Datuk Azizah Mohd Dun offered herself for the same division chief post. "But this goes to show democracy is healthy in our country and its not a question of gender or family," she said when contacted.
 
3.40pm: Former Malacca chief minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam arrived at the Putra World Trade Centre to submit his nomination form for the party's election. His arrival quashed speculations that he would pull out from the contest for the Umno vice president's post.
 
3.20pm: Former Cabinet Minister and Wanita Umno Chief Datuk Seri Dr Siti Zaharah Sulaiman will contest for the Paya Besar Wanita Umno chief post
 
UPDATE FROM MALACCA: Malacca Umno Election Committee chief Tan Sri Ahmad Nordin Md Amin said as of 3pm, they have received 11 nominations for six Umno divisions' chief posts- Jasin (3), Masjid Tanah (3), Alor Gajah (2), and one each for Bukit Katil, Kota Melaka and Tangga Batu.
 
3.00pm:  Kedah MB Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir have submitted his nomination form to contest for the Umno vice president post at Labuan Room, PWTC at 3pm
 
2.54pm: Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir arrives at the nomination counter in PWTC to register himself for one of the Umno vice president post.
 
2.00pm: IN SEREMBAN: Former Chembong state assemblyman Datuk Mohamad Rais Zainuddin who will challenge incumbent Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan for Rembau division chief post submitted his nomination form at Wisma Umno 
 
MALACCA: State Umno liaison chairman and Chief Minister Datuk Wira Idris Haron - who is expected to submit his form for Tangga Batu Umno division chief later today, will face an opponent for the post after ordinary member Baddrul Hissham Abdul Aziz submitted his form this morning.
 
PADANG RENGAS: A former civil servant is set to challenge Datuk Seri Mohammed Nazri Abdul Aziz for the Padang Rengas Umno chief post. Shahidan Yussof, 61, who is the former secretary of Majlis Perumahan Negara filed his nomination form at the Dewan Jubli Perak here at 1.15pm today. Mohammed Nazri who is also Tourism and Cultural Minister is expected to be challenge by another contender, Datuk Jamal Nasir Rasdi who is the Padang Rengas Umno treasurer.
 
IN JOHOR: Nomination form for Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to defend his post as Umno Pagoh division chief was submitted by Pagoh BN chairman Datuk Tahir Mohd Taat at about 10.30am today. Tahir submitted the form at the Johor Umno Elections Special Committee at the Berjaya Waterfront Hotel Johor Baru. Most of the prominent divisional chiefs defending their respective posts were not present, but had sent their representatives instead.
 
Meanwhile, Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin was not present as he was still mourning his father Nordin Johari's death due to kidney complications and old age on Friday
 
IN GUA MUSANG: Gua Musang Umno divisional youth chief Datuk Bazlan Baharuddin today submitted his nomination papers here to contest the division chief's post, now held by Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah. The move by Bazlan, 44, will set the stage for a show-down in the division, which has not seen any contest for the top post since Tengku Razaleigh presided over the seat from the late 1990s.
 
BESUT: Umno Besut division chief, Datuk Idris Jusoh who was previously thought could win the division's top post uncontested, is now being challenged by his own deputy Nawi Mohamad.
 
IN JERANTUT: 12.45pm: Umno division head and former Deputy Transport Minister Tan Sri Tengku Azlan Sultan Abu Bakar will face the nely-elected Jerantut Member of Parliament, Ahmad Nazlan Idris for the division's top post. Nazlan, who is the divisional information chief, submitted the nomination form at 12.45pm while Tengku Azlan handed over his form earlier. Tengku Azlan has been the divisional chairman for four terms. 
 
IN JOHOR: Pengerang Member of Parliament, Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said submitted the nomination form to defend her post as Umno Pengerang division chief through her representative, Ghazali Abas. So far, Azalina is only being challenged by Abd Jalil Kahar who is also the Bandar Penawar branch chief.
 
IN KUALA KANGSAR: The Perak Umno will let the Umno headquarters to decide on action by Pasir Salak Umno division leadership who decided to send their nomination forms straight to the party headquarters. Perak Umno secretary Datuk Ahmad Khusairi Abd Talib said based on instruction given by the party headquarters, all nomination forms for the party elections must be sent via the respective states Umno office. Pasir Salak is the only Umno division in Perak which did not conduct its nomination process at the Dewan Jubli Perak here today.
 
IN KUALA KANGSAR: A woman was among the four candidates who submitted their nomination forms to contest the Gopeng Umno division chief post in the party elections. Hamizura Osman who is the younger sister of former Sungai Rapat assemblyman, Datuk Hamidah Osman submitted her nomination form at the Dewan Jubli Perak here this morning. Hamizura and two other contenders, Major (R) Roslan Zakaria and Saidin Kadri Abd Malek will take on incumbent Datuk Hamzah Kassim. Another four-cornered fight is expected to take place in Tanjung Malim Umno division.
 
IN JOHOR: International Trade and Industry Deputy Minister Hamim Samuri confirmed that he is contesting for the Ledang Umno division chief post that was previously held by former Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman.
 
IN JOHOR: Son of former Johor MB, Mohammad Jamil Helmi Abdul Ghani, 31, confirms he is contesting for the Ledang Umno Youth vice chief post
 
IN BATU KAWAN: Husband of famous actress, Umi Aida, Datuk Khairuddin Abu Hassan made a suprise when he announced that he is contesting for the Batu Kawan vice division chief.
 
IN TEMERLOH: 11.00am: Umno division chief Datuk Mohd Sharkar Shamsudin, who secured the seat in 2008, arrived to submit his nomination paper. The State Tourism Exco and Pahang Umno liaison committee deputy chairman is expected to win uncontested. Former Temerloh Umno Youth vice chief Nor Azmi Mat Ludin, made a surprise comeback after five-year hiatus when he submitted his nomination form to take on incumbent, Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah and newcomer Datuk Akhbar VV Abu for the Temerloh Umno division deputy chief seat.

IN KOTA KINABALU: Umno Pensiangan member Marutin Ansiung urged the party administration to take heed of the slow registration process at the Sabah Umno building here today. "The state party headquarters should control the crowd from outside the building and not inside," he said adding the location of the hall on the second floor also did not help ease the flow. "I was trapped on the staircase for more than two hours and had to wrestle my way in. If we were given numbers outside this would not have caused the bottleneck situation," said Marutin who is eyeing a post with the divisional committee. Datuk Awang Sham Amit who eyeing the Sandakan division post too was among the many caught in the chaos. "I may have lost some weight," quipped Awang Sham whose white shirt was drench in sweat as he filed his papers.

UPDATE FROM KOTA KINABALU: Tension is high at the Sabah Umno building as hundreds are jam packed outside the main hall where candidates are filing in their nominations. At least two doors are being constantly pounded by those unable to enter the hall located on the second floor and hundreds more are waiting from the lobby up for their turn. Party members crowding registration desks have also begun raising their voices venting their frustrations with the on going process.

Security guards manning the door claimed there were also a few women who passed out while waiting to enter the hall. Sabah with 25 divisions has the biggest number of members.

UPDATE FROM SABAH: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman who is Libaran Umno division incumbent has registered himself to defend the position earlier this morning. The nomination papers were presented by representative Asmara Abdul Rahman and the divisional work secretary Ahmad Hassan, who were among the earliest to arrive since nomination session starts at 8am. So far only one candidacy has been filed for Libaran division chief.

11.30am: Tan Sri Isa Samad, who is contesting for the party's vice president post in the upcoming party polls, reiterated that he will go on a solo campaign.

11.12am: Kelantan deputy liaison chief Datuk Dr Awang Adek Hussin announced that he will not defend his Umno Supreme Council seat in the upcoming party election.

UPDATE: As of 11.01am: Incumbent Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil is expected to face a straight fight against newcomer Raihan Suleiman Palestine for the Wanita Umno chief post. Shahrizat was one of the earliest candidates to arrive at the Putra World Trade Center this morning, submitting her nomination papers at 8.11am. Raihan, a senior Wanita member from the Kulim-Bandar Baru division, submitted hers at 10.20 am. As of press time, other contenders for the post have yet to register.

10.51am: Prime Minister's Department strategic director Datuk Sahlan Ismail has submitted nomination form for Pokok Sena division deputy chief post, via his representative.

UPDATE FROM KOTA KINABALU: Isnin Aliasneh who was Beaufort Umno acting chief will be facing off with one of his own team, Saridah Mohd Dun who was the divisional Puteri Umno chief. Isnin registered to contest for the Beaufort division chief, after holding the acting chief post for over a year since Datuk Seri Lajim Ukin left the post vacant after his departure from Barisan Nasional. "Although I prefer her (Saridah) to fight with me rather than against me, it is her rights to offer herself to run for the post," he said.
 
10.45am: Son of former Kedah Menteri Besar, Akhramsyah Muammar Ubaidah Sanusi submitted his nomination form to challenge Khairy Jamaludin for the Umno Youth chief post at PWTC. 
 
10.30am: Semporna incumbent Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal will be defending his post as the divisional chief which he held since 1996. His nomination papers was submitted by his representative Hisham Abd Fattah at the Sabah Umno building.
 
UPDATE FROM KOTA KINABALU: Former Sabah Umno Information Chief Datuk Abdul Rahim Ismail will be defending his post as the Papar division chief. Rahim personally submitted his nomination form at the Sabah Umno building here.
 
"I believe there is still a lot I can offer to the party and my division. The party president had also outlined the five thrusts to empower bumiputera economy and its a heavy responsibility."
 
Rahim who had also served as a Cabinet minister took over the post as the division chief since 2009 from former Chief minister Datuk Seri Osu Sukam.
 
10.15am: IN SEREMBAN: Tan Sri Isa Samad submitted nomination form for Teluk Kemang division chief post through his rep Abdul Halim Mohd, 55, at Wisma Umno in Seremban.
 
10.15am: Raihan Suleiman Palestin has submitted her nomination form to challenge Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil for the Umno Wanita chief post.
 
10.10am: IN PEKAN: The nomination paper for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to defend his post as Pekan divisional head was submitted by Pekan Umno divisional secretary Datuk Zainal Abidin Pa'wan. Zainal handed over the form to the state Umno Elections Special Committtee chairman Datuk Seri Abdul Jabbar Ibrahim at Pekan Umno headquarters. Najib has been the divisional chairman since Sept 2, 1982.
 
IN KUANTAN, its Umno divisional chief Datuk Wan Adnan Wan Mamat handed over his nomination form at the divisional headquarters at 9am, followed by his challenger Abd Mutalib Shamsuddin Kuantan, who is Umno committee member, an hour later.
 
UPDATE: As of 10am, the Umno secretariat have received 49 forms for the Supreme Council posts, Wanita (37), Pemuda (48) and Puteri (27).
 
10.07am: FROM KOTA KINABALU: A three cornered contest is on the cards for the Kota Belud division. Incumbent Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak who is also the Sabah Umno deputy chief and State Speaker will be challenged by Datuk Awadnir Matanggal and Rosmin Kassan. Awadnir was the deputy division chief while Rosmin was the former Usukan People's Development Leader.
 
9.53am: Perlis Menteri Besar Azlan man submit his nomination for Kangar division chief post at Dewan Residensi in Kangar.
 
9.47am: Umno veteran Tan Sri Isa Samad arrives at PWTC to submit his nomination form for the party election. 
 
9.35am: Kedah Menteri Besar Mukhriz Mahathir submitted nomination form for Jerlun division chief post, expected to win uncontested.
 
9.30am: Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom submitted his nomination for Jerai division chief post through a representative.
 
IN SEREMBAN: NS Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan became the first candidate to submit his nomination form through his rep Mohd Firdaus Abd Aziz, 33, at Negri Sembilan Wisma Umno at 7.30am.
 
IN KOTA KINABALU: A large crowd has gathered at the Sabah Umno building since early this morning. Among the key leaders who has registered themselves as candidates were incumbent Kinabatangan chief Datuk Bung Mokhtar Radin, Sabah Wanita chief Datuk Armani Mahiruddin of the Libaran division and Beaufort aspirant Saridah Mohd Dun who was the divisional Puteri Umno chief. Most candidates were registered by their representatives.
 
8.47am: Seniman president, Zed Zaidi is the first Malaysian artist to contest for Pemuda exco post
 
8.45am: Umno Youth candidate Syed Rosli Syed Harman Jamalullail, 37, submit his nomination form, saying his desire to contest is to return the wing to its original Malay struggle.
 
8.30am: Khairy Jamaluddin submits his nomination form for Rembau deputy chief post through a representative, Mohd Azizi Saadin, 39, at Wisma Umno in Seremban at 8am 
 
8.25am: Umno vice presidents Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal submit their nomination forms for the upcoming party polls. Zahid and Shafie, who are defending their post, submitted their forms through their respective representatives. Zahid, who is the Home Minister, submitted his form through his special officer Mohd Kamal Abdullah while Shafie was represented by his political secretary Razak Sakaran. Both ministers were not present when the forms were submitted.
 
8.20am : Datuk Seri Hishammudin Hussein has submitted his nomination form. He is defending his vice president post.

The Defence Minister submitted his nomination form through Sembrong Umno division vice chief Abdul Ghani Abdul Rashid at the Putra World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur. His proposer is Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal.

8.11am : Datuk Muhd Khairun Aseh and Datuk Mohd Nardin Awang have arrived at PWTC to file nomination form for Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Razak and deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin who will defend their respective posts.

8.10am : Malacca Puteri Umno chief Mas Ermieyati Samsudin submits her nomination form to contest for the Umno Puteri Chief post. She said she is confident with the response received from grassroot.

8.05am : Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim is the first to submit nomination form for the Supreme Council post at PWTC.

8.05am : Wanita Chief Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil, who is defending her post, arrives to hand in her nomination form.

8.00am: Candidate for Puteri deputy chief, Norsabrina Mohd Noor was the first to submit her nomination form. Candidate number 0001
