ALOR STAR: Former Kedah Menteri Besar Tan Sri Azizan Abdul Razak was laid to rest at Muasasah Darul Ulum Muslim cemetery in Pokok Sena at about 5.30pm today.

The hearse bearing his remains arrived from Masjid Nurul Ihsan in Jalan Langgar 40 minutes before the ceremony.
 
Pas Spiritual deputy leader Datuk Haron Din  led the final prayer before Azizan's remain was buried next to the late Pas President Dato Fadzil Mohd Nor upon his request.
 
Some 3,000 mourners led by Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah, Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Hajah Haminah and Tengku Bendahara of Kedah Tan Sri Tunku Annuar Sultan Badlishah paid their last respect after news of his death was announced by Menteri Besar Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir.
 
Also in attendance were former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and wife Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali.
 
 
They were accompanied by Menteri Besar Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir, Ministry of Energy, Water and Green Technology deputy minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid, Baling member of Parliament Datuk Abdul Azeez Rahim, Kubang Pasu member of Parliament Datuk Mohd Johari Baharom and state executive councillor Rawi Abdul Hamid.
 

 

Azizan passed away at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital here about 11.15am today, after suffering from cardiac arrest yesterday.announced the news just now.


The 69-year-old Sungai Limau assemblyman had been depending on life-support machine for about 10 days before he suffered the cardiac arrest twice yesterday.

On May 9, Azizan underwent a surgery to amputate both his legs below the knee to prevent life-threatening risks stemming from the infection at the Penang Hospital.

He had been transferred to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital on August 14 after spending more than two months at the Penang Hospital.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak who is in New York tweeted -  Al-Fatihah. Takziah kepada keluarga Tan Sri Azizan Abdul Razak atas pemergian arwah, semoga roh beliau dicucuri rahmat.

Mukhriz also extended his condolence to the family of late Tan Sri Azizan.
 
Mukhriz who arrived at the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital at 11.50am to pay last respect to his predecessor, described the Azizan's passing as a big loss to the country.
 
"Even though we are from different political affiliation but Tan Sri Azizan had made huge contribution to the people in Kedah," he said.
 
Meanwhile, the hospital deputy director Dr Noor Zaini Morad said Azizan was pronounced dead at 11.05am here today.
 
"He had suffered from sepsis with multi organ failure," she told Pressmen.
 
Azizan leaves behind two wives, 14 children and six grandchildren.
