KOTA BAHARU: A girl who will be sitting for her Ujian Penilaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) this year is feared drowned after she was swept away by swift current while trying to save a relative in an incident at Sungai Kedai Buluh, here, today.
The victim, 12-year-old Nur Fitriah Mat Yassin, of Sekolah Kebangsaan Kedai Buluh 1, here, is believed to have drowned after saving her nephew Mohd Isra Sufian, 9, in the incident at 12.30pm.
State Fire and Rescue Superintendent Shahrin Yusmal Mat Yusof said a search- and-rescue team comprising 12 firemen, 10 members of the Civil Defence Department, four volunteer firemen and five policemen were still searching for the girl. -- BERNAMA
