KANGAR: Perlis Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Md Isa Sabu clarified that the doctorate he obtained in 2002 was internationally recognised even though not listed under the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA).
He was commenting on recent challenges by certain parties, about his PhD from Newport University in California, United States which confers the title "Doctor", on the basis that it was not recognised by the MQA.
The Perlis Umno Liaison chairman told reporters after a breaking of fast function with the media yesterday that he was puzzled why the issue was raised only after 10 years.
"Some say I bought the PhD, which I worked very hard to obtain. It wasn't easy," said Md Isa, who is also Bintong assembly man.
He added that the Newport University, had ISO 9001:1994, EN ISO 9001:1994 and ANSI/ASQC Q9001:1994 under the Llyod's Register Quality Assurance Limited, and was renamed as Janus University in 2011.
"I'm not a medical doctor and I don't care if people do not call me by the title. The important things is I studied for and obtained an internationally recognised doctorate," Md Isa concluded. -- BERNAMA
