    Malaysia to achieve another breakthrough year in medical tourism

    SERI KEMBANGAN: Malaysia is on track to achieve another breakthrough year in medical tourism this year, Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen said today.

     

    She said the Malaysia Healthcare and Travel Council announced that medical tourism in Malaysia struck record levels last year and was on track to achieve another breakthrough year.
     
    She said receipts from foreign patients spending on medical treatment in Malaysia totalled RM509.77 million, based on 578,403 patients.
     
    "These figures were well above the initial projection of RM431 million, clearly demonstrating that Malaysia has an enormous potential in health tourism," she said at the launch of Mines Wellness Hotel here today.
     
    Her text of speech was read by the ministry's deputy secretary-general, Dr Junaida Lee Abdullah.
     
    Country Heights Holdings Berhad launched its newly-positioned Mines Wellness Hotel, following a RM1.3 million refurbishment which refocuses its position as a wellness resort.
     
    Dr Ng said the ministry would continue to aggressively promote the country as a luxury destination towards attracting high yield tourists to Malaysia, in line with the Malaysia Tourism Transformation Plan 2020 to achieve 36 million tourist arrivals and RM168 billion receipts by 2020.
     
    She congratulated Mines Wellness Hotel for its environmental efforts and contribution in helping brand Malaysia on a regional level. -- BERNAMA
