PUTRAJAYA -- Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister, Datuk Seri Peter Chin Fah Kui has instructed the ministry's secretary-general, Datuk Loo Took Gee, to meet with Selangor's state secretary-general on the Langat Water Treatment Plant (Langat 2) issue, as soon as possible.

He urged the Selangor state government to reach a consensus to implement the project.

"Stop politicising this issue as it will not benefit anyone. The people will suffer because there is no water supply," he told reporters at the Hari Raya Open House at Seri Perdana here today.

Chin said the federal and state governments must reach a consensus this year in order to ensure Klang Valley gets an adequate and continuous water supply from 2015.

"The Selangor Government should give priority to Langat 2 before discussing water tariffs. Once the plant is completed, then we can talk," he said, adding that the federal government had the funds to build the plant but could not obtain the development order from the state government.

A cabinet committee on the Selangor Water Issue was established to look into the issues related to the water supply service industry in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, chaired by Deputy Prime Minster Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
