Malaysia’s 13th General Election

Mentakab voters still loyal to BN

TEMERLOH: The Barisan Nasional (BN) is confident of retaining the Mentakab state seat for it believes the voters still hold their loyalty to the coalition and will reject the DAP.

Temerloh BN parliamentary coordinating chairman Datuk Mohd Sharkar Samsuddin said despite fielding a Malay candidate in the state constituency, it would not mean that votes from the Malays, which accounted for 52 per cent of 14,600 voters, would tilt the balance in the DAP's favour.

"The DAP had fielded a Malay candidate several times in the state constituency but to no avail for the Malay and non-Malay voters know best who they want to represent them," he said after meeting Temerloh BN campaigners here today.

The DAP will field its Pahang deputy chairman, Tengku Zulpuri Tengku Puji in the constituency.

In the 2008 general election, BN's Chuah Boon Seong defeated DAP's Ng Kwi Ling and Independent Mohd Shokri Mahmood with a 2,439-vote majority.-- BERNAMA
