More than 80pc new faces in Selangor: Najib

SHAH ALAM: Selangor Barisan Nasional is fielding more than 80 per cent new candidates to contest in the upcoming 13th general election.

BN chairman and state liaison chief Datuk Seri Najib Razak said the selection was based on the choice of the people which reflects the coalition's transformation drive.

Najib who made the announcement today said Umno would contest in nine parliament seats and 35 state seats, MCA to contest seven parliament seats and 14 state seats, MIC four parliaments and three state seats, Gerakan one parliament and three state seats, People's Progressive Party will contest for one state seat and an independent contesting on BN's ticket one parliament seat.

 The prime minister said the candidates comprise of professionals including doctors and engineers and popular candidates who have proved that they can serve the people to the best of their ability.

"We made this decision to fulfill the needs and expectations of the rakyat.

"I am confident this is the best line up who can bring transformation, fulfill the people's expectations and more," he said, here, yesterday.

Among notable candidates are Datuk Seri Mohd Zin Mohamed, Datuk Seri Noh Omar, Datuk Donald Lim Siang Chai and Datuk Maglin Dennis D' Cruz.
