KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Najib Razak congratulated the newly elected Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi on his victory in the recent presidential election.
The Malaysian prime minister, in his congratulatory message, said Morsi's triumph is a clear testimony of the confidence Egyptians have towards his leadership and political vision, said a Wisma Putra statement issued here today.
"Malaysia welcomes the transformation process towards democracy currently taking place in Egypt," and looks forward to working closely with Morsi in further strengthening the existing close relations between both countries, said Najib.
Morsi was declared Egypt's new President last Sunday after narrowly defeating another contender Ahmed Shafiq by garnering 51.7 percent of votes.
Morsi clinched 13,230,131 votes to Shafiq's 12,347,380 votes. Bernama
