Negri Sembilan MB backs discplinary panel plan

RANTAU: Negri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan backed Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Razak's plan to activate its discplinary committee before the upcoming general election.

The state Umno liaison chief said he was convinced with the feasibility of the move as it would counter issues of internal sabotage between members in the party.

"Problems cropped up when the members were not happy with each other and they started to sabotage those of different opinions from themselves in the party.

"This happened in this state for instance, as we had previously lost so many seats in the state assembly not because of the opposition's strength, but due to sabotage from the party members itself," he said.

He said there would be no use for the committee to hold discussions or take actions after the general election as damage had been done.

"It is better to take actions beforehand to maintain discipline among the members, and I believe the early activation of this committee will help to address this problem," he said.

Mohamad was speaking to reporters after handing over Bantuan Rakyat 1Malaysia (BR1M) at Sekolah Kebangsaan Sega here yesterday.

On Saturday, Najib had said that Umno will be activating its disciplinary committee to monitor the activities of its members from now onwards.

He said this was imperative to ensure that the members toe the party line until election.

Previously, the disciplinary committee was activated only after the general election was over as a move to deal with members who violated the party’s rules and ethics.

Mohamad said Umno members would think twice before sabotaging their own members when the mechanism was in placed as the committee would take immediate action for any violations found before the general election.
