RM1.5m for matriculation, diploma students

    KEMAMAN: The Terengganu Foundation (YT) is to distribute RM1.5 million to 2,752 Terengganu-born students accepted for further studies at matriculation and diploma levels this year.

    From the total amount, RM929,500 will be given to 1,851 matriculation students who will receive RM900 each while RM542,250 will be given to 721 diploma students who will receive RM750 each.

    State education, higher learning, science, technology and human resources committee chairman Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman said the cash contribution is aimed at reducing the financial burden of parents at the early stage of their children's enrollment into higher learning institutions. 
     
    "The state government is also hoping that the huge investment in the education field with an allocation of RM340 million a year, can produce an excellence young generation, that can become an asset to the state's success in the future," he told reporters here today.
     
    Ahmad Razif had earlier opened the East Coast zone Students Sports Carnival at the TATI University College, Teluk Kalong here, today which was participated by 1,400 students from 16 private higher learning institutions in the East Coast. 
     
    He also advised students to understand the concept and issues related to the National Higher Education Fund (PTPTN), so that they can act rationally. -- BERNAMA
