Sime Darby sets aside 40 acres of land to build 400 houses in Carey Island

KUALA LUMPUR: Sime Darby had agreed to set aside 40 acres of land to build 400 houses for the people of Carey Island, revealed MIC president Datuk Seri G. Palanivel today.

He said the new housing area on the island which is mainly inhabited by Indians would also have a tadika, a temple and would be complete with infrastructures.
Palanivel also divulged that the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak told him that the houses would be sold at cost price.
“The PM had requested me to coordinate with tthe Chief Executive Officer of Sime Darby, Datuk Mohd Bakke Salleh to work that out,” said Palanivel.
He said that initially there was another proposal by Sime Darby to build houses at another place, Kampung Sidu instead of allocating the land at Carey Island.
The island which has palm oil plantations owned by Sime Darby Plantations had its dwellers refusing to move away as they had been residing there for a long time.
Seeing the situation at hand, Sime Darby had agreed to the initial proposal by the Prime Minister to have houses to be built for the dwellers in the island itself.
