Suki won her breach of promise suit against artist management company

KUALA LUMPUR: “One In A Million” talent show 2006 winner, Suki, won her breach of promise suit against artist management company Galaxy Music Sdn Bhd at the High Court, her lawyer told reporters yesterday.

 Lawyer Ong Yu Jian said the court allowed Suki's claim and ordered that the agreement with Galaxy be terminated.
 The court also ordered Galaxy to refund the sum of RM367,575.17 to Suki, whose real name is Low Sook Yee. She was also awarded RM30,000 in legal costs.
 In her suit filed in December last year, Suki, claimed that Galaxy had misrepresented to her that they would be able to produce, market and distribute an international Chinese album for her in Taiwan, China and/or Hong Kong.
 She also alleged that she paid a sum of RM367,575.17 to Galaxy and the sum was from her prize money for winning the “One In A Million” talent competition in 2006.
 In its defence, Galaxy claimed that they never made such representations to Suki and that they did produce an album for her.
 Galaxy further claimed that the agreement to produce an international album for Suki was with her previous recording company and not with the singer.
 According to Ong, in delivering her decision on Thursday, judge Datuk Hasnah Mohammad Hashim likened Suki’s situation to that of "a ballerina in a musical box of which Galaxy firmly held the key to".
 The judge also noted that Suki had been victimised through the lopsided terms of the agreement which seemed to only protect only Galaxy's interests.
