This year’s Shout Awards will feature some new awards, writes Nur Aqidah Aziz

THE third instalment of the Shout Awards 2012 (SA12) will see 18 awards in five categories. These  include two new awards — Wired Celebrity and Shout! Aloud — which falls under the Social Media category. They will acknowledge industry talents and fans in both categories.

SA12 chief committee member Jennifer Thompson said the Wired Celebrity Award will be given to the most active celebrity on social medium.

“Meanwhile, the most active fan on social medium will receive the Shout! Aloud Award,” Thompson said at a recent  Press conference.

Also present were 8TV and ntv7 group general manager, Airin Zainul and SA12 executive producer Sunil Kumar Ragupathy.

SA12, which recognises the contributions of individuals in the local music, TV and film and radio industries, will be held on Nov 24 at Surf Beach @ Sunway Lagoon.

The awards ceremony will be aired live on 8TV at 8.30pm. It will kick off with an exclusive red carpet event featuring various celebrities, artistes and individuals.

Touching on this year’s concept, Thompson said the matter has not been decided yet.

“We are still thinking on what would be the best concept for this year’s event. We are also looking at contents .

SA12 also launches its official twitter account @TheShoutAwards and its official hash tag #shoutawards, which saw an astounding response when it started trending to be in the Top 4 in less than 30 minutes, with 1,188 tweets that generated close to 12 million impressions, reaching an audience of nearly 1.7 million followers within six hours.

“It is more than just noise. It’s a revolution. The entertainment industry in our country has evolved. Radio, TV,  film and music have morphed into bold anchors, supporting new trends and exploring new depths,” said Airin.
To add more spice to SA12, an international superstar is expected to join the event.

“We are still looking for a suitable star. We will consider requests from fans but it has to meet our budget. So far, among the names that have been forwarded to us are Adele, Coldplay, Taylor Swift and several K-Pop artistes,” said Airin, adding the celebrity will be revealed soon.

All nominations for this year’s SA12 will be judged by an independent panel of judges consisting of experts from the broadcasting, music and film industries.

The panel will go through the nominations to choose the Top 5 nominees for each award.

The Top 5 nominees will be announced and viewers will be given a month to vote online at www.shoutawards.com.my and via SMS.

The submission period runs from now till Sept 7.
