If you’re going to Ipoh, check out the Tower Regency Hotel and Apartment Ipoh in the city centre. It’s just a short stroll away from happening joints, writes Hanna Hussein
WHEN I made that 2½-hour drive from Kuala Lumpur to Ipoh, I didn’t really know what the capital of Perak had in store. I thought Ipoh was just another town — okay, it’s a city — devoid of entertainment.
As I check in at Tower Regency Hotel and Apartment Ipoh, I’m thinking that I’ll get a good rest at least.
The spacious junior suite room has a king-size bed with fluffy pillows and plush mattress that you can really sink into.
The lovely view of the majestic limestone hill, Gunung Rapat, and the surrounding greens give me more reason to just sit back, relax and enjoy the room.
BRIGHT NIGHT
In the evening, a friend picks me up for a mini city tour and food hunt. It seems that the happening jaunts — Ipoh Parade and Dataran Ipoh — are just a five-minute stroll from the hotel. Quite happening, I must say.
I also get to experience the Ipoh brand of night entertainment, thanks to room division manager Mariana Hamid, who chills out with me at the hotel’s T-Lounge.
This is not the Ipoh of my thoughts. Not boring definitely. The lounge offers a variety of drinks, cocktails and snacks as guests listen to Cheeky Cheeky Boom Boom, a band comprising Zulkefli Ali, his son Amirul Aizad Zulkefli and Nor Akma Salih.
MORE FOOD
Cafe@6 is another outlet that shouldn’t be missed. It offers both international and local cuisine. A must-try is its signature Lamb Shank (RM38++). The ribeye steak is delightful too.
The hotel is also known for its halal dim sum (RM3-RM6 per plate) at T Cuisine daily, from 3pm to 10pm, except Sunday.
