Thai flavours in Malacca

Head for the Renaissance Melaka Hotel if you’re in the mood for Thai cuisine, writes Teresa Yong-Leong

ANYTIME is a good time to check in at the Renaissance Melaka Hotel because, as it is surrounded by tourist attractions, everyday at the hotel feels like a holiday.

On regular days, a stay at the hotel is blissful indulgence as there are three themed buffets — barbecue on Thursday, seafood on Friday and Mediterranean on Saturday.

But this month, the five-star hotel is throwing in something special with all its F&B outlets having special food promotions.

The award-wining, all-day dining Zest, is offering no less than 135 Thai dishes, from the appetisers to desserts, for the Amazing Thailand @Zest Food Promotion.

Chef Natthaphol Srisa-Ard of Courtyard by Marriott, Bangkok, its sister hotel, has been flown in to whip up the feast.

Must-try dishes include duck breast in red curry with lychee (geang phed ped yang) for a different appreciation of this bird as well as red curry with beef (pha neang nue) and chicken in green curry (kaeng kiew warn gai).

Seafood lovers must not miss stir-fried crab with curry sauce for a distinct Thai touch. The sweet crab meat is just lovely with the sauce.

The ever popular som tam appetiser or raw papaya salad and mango with sticky rice for dessert are perfect accompaniments for a
    complete meal.

At its Chinese restaurant, Long Feng, which serves dinner from 6.30-10.30pm, there’s the irresistible lobster promotion. This halal restaurant also offers three wedding dinner packages for a minimum of 20 tables.

For the romantic at heart, the Olio Italian Restaurant is the perfect spot. For this month, it has introduced a special summer treat at its two cosy corners.

The most arresting offering is the tiramisu served in a huge martini glass. It can easily feed four to six diners! The pizza, pasta and juicy steak are also not to be missed.

For those with a sweet tooth, the former Cookie Corner has now morphed into the R Deli for a variety of irresistible cakes and pastries.

Pastry chef Anthony’s selection of cheesecakes, such as triple chocolate cheesecake and baked cheesecake, are probably the only way cheesecakes should taste. Other sinful creations include the peanut butter cake, chocolate brownies, mango eclair and pistachio cream brulee.

After all the feasting, spend the night at the Club room on the 22nd floor with a sea view — it’s the perfect way to end a thoroughly enjoyable day.
