Over the last decade, it seems that more doors of opportunity have been opened to young film-makers.
Such opportunities, according to new director Euho, has helped young talents explore their craft. Euho, whose real name is Leong Yew Hoe, is directing a Chinese movie, which centres on the relationship between a father and his young son.
The movie, tentatively titled Who’s My Dad, also stars Taiwan’s Mini Bin (the brother of Taiwan’s hottest child actor, Xiao Xiao Bin), Malaysia’s Victor Wong, Yise Loo, Emily Lim and Jason Chong, Singapore’s Jeanette Aw as well as a few more actors from Hong Kong.
“As someone new to the industry, I feel blessed to have so many people, especially colleagues who are supporting my project. Who’s My Dad centres on Mini Bin and his relationship with his father,” said Euho, who is from Selangor.
Singer-actor Wong, who will appear in an upcoming Chinese film Pasar Malam, said that he is excited at being in another local movie as well as portraying a father for the first time.
“There’ll be a lot of father and son chemistry between Mini Bin and I. A lot of my scenes will take place in Cameron Highlands. I am excited as it has been more than 10 years since I last went there,” he said.
During the Press conference, there was good chemistry between Mini Bin and Wong — both were talking and joking non-stop.
Soft-spoken Mini Bin, who was last seen in the TTV drama Happy Together, said this was his second trip to the country. The 5-year-old said he likes being in the company of Wong as well as his co-star, Yise, who plays his aunt in the movie.
Yise, who plays a race driver, jokingly asked Mini Bin if he was afraid of being in a fast car with her. “I don’t like fast cars!” said the child actor. His response drew laughter from the crew and his co-stars, who asked if he is insured, which drew a blank look.
Filming began on Wednesday in Cameron Highlands, and it will take up to 20 days to complete. The movie is distributed by Asia Tropical Films.
